What does SubhanAllah mean?

SubhanAllah means "Glory be to Allah", declaring that Allah is far above any fault or imperfection. It is said in wonder at something beautiful, in dismay at something wrong, and 33 times after each obligatory prayer as part of the standard post-prayer remembrance.

What does Alhamdulillah mean?

Alhamdulillah means "All praise is due to Allah". It is used to give thanks after eating, when asked how you are, and after any relief or good outcome. It is also said 33 times after each obligatory prayer, between SubhanAllah and Allahu Akbar.

What does Astaghfirullah mean?

Astaghfirullah means "I seek forgiveness from Allah". The root gh-f-r carries the sense of covering, so the request is that a wrong be covered over. It is said after a slip, three times after each prayer, and commonly a hundred times daily.

What is the difference between dhikr and dua?

Dhikr is remembrance: repeating words that glorify, praise or magnify Allah, with no request attached. Dua is supplication: asking Allah for something. A single sitting often contains both, and some phrases such as Astaghfirullah sit on the boundary, since seeking forgiveness both remembers and asks.

What is the difference between InshaAllah and MashaAllah?

InshaAllah means "if Allah wills" and is said about the future, attaching any plan or promise to Allah's will. MashaAllah means "what Allah has willed" and is said about the present or past, acknowledging that something good came from Allah. Future intention versus present acknowledgement.

Do these phrases mean something different in Urdu, Hindi or Malayalam?

No. The phrases are Arabic, so their meaning is fixed regardless of the reader's language. What changes is the script used to write them and the words used to explain them. A Malayalam or Urdu rendering conveys the same sense in a familiar script.
