Dua for the pain
The Prophet taught direct supplications for physical pain. Place your hand where it hurts and read.
Pain is not a punishment. The Prophet said every ache a believer suffers wipes sins away like leaves off a tree. That does not mean you sit with it. He gave specific words to say and specific actions to do.
These supplications are read alongside medicine, not instead of it. Islam explicitly permits seeking medical treatment. The Prophet said Allah has not sent down a disease without also sending down its cure.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ ثَلَاثًا، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ
Bismillah (three times), a‘udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir. (seven times)
In the name of Allah (3x). I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I feel and fear. (7x)
Sahih Muslim 2202. Say while placing your hand on the place of pain.
أَذْهِبِ الْبَاسَ رَبَّ النَّاسِ، اشْفِ وَأَنْتَ الشَّافِي، لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ، شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا
Adhhibi‑l-ba’sa, Rabba‑n-nas, ishfi wa anta‑sh-Shafi, la shifa’a illa shifa’uk, shifa’an la yughadiru saqaman.
Remove the harm, Lord of mankind. Heal, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no sickness behind.
Sahih al-Bukhari 5675
أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ رَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ أَنْ يَشْفِيَكَ
As’alullaha‑l-‘azima Rabba‑l-‘arshi‑l-‘azimi an yashfiyak. (seven times)
I ask Allah, the Mighty, Lord of the mighty Throne, to heal you. (7x)
Sunan Abi Dawud 3106. Read for a sick person whose time has not come; Allah relieves them.
Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.
Frequently asked
Where should I place my hand?
On the exact place of pain. The Prophet demonstrated this in Sahih Muslim 2202. If it is internal or you cannot reach, place it on the chest and intend the site.
How many times do I read each one?
Bismillah is three times. The next line about seeking refuge is seven. Read Adhhibi-l-ba’s three times over yourself or a loved one. Consistency matters more than exact tally.
Can I read these for someone else?
Yes. Every supplication above is explicitly narrated in the context of the Prophet reading over the sick. Place your hand on them if they permit, and read aloud so they hear.
