What are the morning adhkar?

Morning adhkar (Arabic: adhkār aṣ-ṣabāḥ, أَذْكَار الصَّبَاح) are a curated set of Qur'anic verses and prophetic supplications recited daily between the dawn prayer (Fajr) and sunrise. They are drawn from authentic hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abi Dawud, and Jamiʿ at-Tirmidhi, and compiled in classical works like Al-Adhkār by Imam an-Nawawī and the modern reference Ḥiṣn al-Muslim.

The Qur'an itself commands this practice: "And glorify the praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting" (Qur'an 20:130). The morning adhkar are how that command is fulfilled in practical daily worship.

When to recite the morning adhkar

The strongest time is between the Fajr prayer and sunrise. This is when the Prophet ﷺ would remain seated after Fajr "until the sun rose" (Sahih Muslim 670). If that window is missed, most scholars permit reciting them any time before Dhuhr, with the reward being diminished but not lost.

   اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ

   Ayat al-Kursi

   Allah, there is no god but He, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer.

   Virtue: Whoever recites it in the morning is protected from jinn until evening (Al-Hakim, sahih).

   قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ

   Surah al-Ikhlas + al-Falaq + an-Nas

   Say: He is Allah, the One (each surah once).

   Virtue: Sufficient protection from every harm morning and evening.

   أَصْبَحْنَا وَأَصْبَحَ الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ

   Asbahna wa asbaha-l-mulku lillah

   We have entered the morning and the dominion belongs to Allah.

   Sayyid al-Istighfar

   O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You...

   Virtue: Whoever says it in the morning with certainty and dies that day enters Paradise.

   Virtue: A pledge that Allah will please the servant on the Day of Judgement.

   حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ

   Hasbi Allahu la ilaha illa Huwa

   Allah is sufficient for me; there is no god but He. Upon Him I rely.

   Virtue: Allah suffices him against whatever concerns him.

   SubhanAllahi wa bihamdih

   Glory to Allah and all praise is due to Him.

   Virtue: Sins are wiped away though they be like the foam of the sea.

   لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ

   La ilaha illa Allah, wahdahu la sharika lah

   There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is over all things capable.

   Virtue: Equivalent in reward to freeing ten slaves.

   Astaghfirullaha wa atubu ilayh

   I seek forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him.

    Bismillahi-lladhi la yadurru...

    Virtue: Nothing will harm him.
