Can I do dhikr in the bathroom?

Verbal dhikr is discouraged in the bathroom out of respect for Allah's names. Silent remembrance in the heart is fine. Wait until you leave to say the phrases aloud or to tap a counter.

Detail

The Prophet would remove his ring bearing an inscription of Allah's name before entering the bathroom (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 1746). Scholars extend this to spoken dhikr.

Silent heart remembrance is unrestricted. So is the dua on entering and leaving the bathroom, said just outside the door.

If you are in the middle of a count, pause. Resume when you leave and perform wudu or wash your hands.
